2006 was a Year

So, the year then. Time to do a review kind of thing. I have written a longer, less interesting one in my diary but I won't bore you with all of that. January through to June was pretty much a blank. I don't remember a lot about it. My degree was drawing to a close so I can safely assume that I did a group design project, wrote a game with a bunch of my friends for coursework, wrote an individual research project on robosoccer, and got published. I lived in an 8-person house with lots of lovely people who I regret that I did not have enough time to socialise with. That house got me involved in the semi-regular beer nights, however, which have allowed me to get to know Matt and Dave a little better, at least. When I woke up in June, I was a free man and somehow - and how exactly I do not know - I'd obtained a 2:1 MEng Computer Science degree. The idea of the real world terrified me, so I started a diary, bought a plane ticket to Ireland, and had a truely fantastic Summer living on my savings trying to avoid thinking about it all. I spent a lot of time sitting around in my new house playing computer games, and hanging out with Jade, one of my housemates, who benefited from unusual working hours, meaning that we often had whole days free to sit about. I went to the European Juggling Convention and the Play festival, both of which were superb. Eventually maturity took hold and I got a job in order to earn money and travel properly, which has been harsh. It's a great job but I'm just not ready to be a working man. Recently I have learned to do fun things in spite of the work and am now leading a close-to-normal life, I think. My projects and things are keeping me entertained and I'm doing much better at keeping in touch with people. My new year's resolutions are quite reasonable this year, I think.
  • Lie more was a good resolution in previous years, so keep that going but this time work them into anecdotes and stories more.
  • Learn to shave properly. (I know, I should know how to do this by now, being a clean shaven 22 year old)
  • Get a bit fitter. No big claims here, I just want to avoid collapsing under the weight of my bag when I travel.
  • Do more creative things. Let loungecast and Wobbly Robot blossom. Sort out that big project I've been meaning to do. Do all that.
  • And the big one: travel. Round the world. Properly. Do it, you big loser.
Here's to another year then. Tick tock tick tock tick.
